This is that story.
(that sounded much more dramatic in my head)
We're traveling back in time today. 4th grade. That would've been 1987-88. Wow, that was ages ago!
Anyway, let me set the scene. 4th grade. Recess. It was either fall or spring because I had a hooded sweatshirt on outside.
I know, you're thinking "Ace, that was over 20 years ago, how do you remember you were wearing a hooded sweatshirt?"
Because the hooded sweatshirt played a very important roll in this accident. Actually, it caused it.
Picture a girl and her best friend being stupid. I don't remember who's idea it was (probably mine) but the girl pulls her hood over her face and her friend ties it super tight so she can't see a thing. She takes her friend's hand, who is going to lead her around the playground. Sounds fun! Sounds trusting. This girl does not take into consideration that her friend is also very boy crazy.
The best friend lets go of the girl's hand to go talk to a boy. The girl gets bored.
The girl starts running in place. At least, it felt like I was running in place. I had my entire face tied up in my hood so how was I supposed to know that I was actually really running!
Smack!
I ran full force into a tree. Face first.
It was all very confusing since I thought I was running in place. Someone (the teacher? My friend?) helped me untie the hood. Of course it hurt, but it felt about like the time I caught a softball with the other eye the next year. Can you say accident prone?
It hurt a lot worse when the blood started running down my glasses.
When I smacked into the tree, my glasses went up and split my eyebrow. I spent the rest of the day at the Dr's office getting 8 stitches and left with so much gauze wrapped around my head I looked like I was in a horrible accident. And a scar that makes me forever look like a Vanilla Ice wannabe.
I had to laugh when I was typing this. It wasn't really that funny back then. But thinking about it now as an adult, trying to put myself in the teacher's spot, can you imagine her memory of that day? Seeing a kid bounce face first off a tree? Hilarious! I think so anyway, but I'm the one that dies laughing when people fall painfully on America's Funniest Videos.
True story.

10 people love me:
You're right it is funny now. I an just picture you running around like Frankenstein with your hands held out in front of you. Thank goodness it didn't go in your eye! Yikes!
Again-your eyes are awesome!
I'm totally laughing!!! Felt like you were running in place but you weren't!! I can just imagine the shock and confusion!! *snorting*
So because I am sadly the same way and laugh hysterically whenever people fall, I can guarantee you that had I been on that playground and seen you fall, I would have been on the floor laughing.
P.S. As I was driving to work drinking my smoothie yesterday, I remembered that you commented on my 365 blog about the magic bullet like ages ago. Well I suck and forgot to email you to say "yes! the magic bullet is worth it!" we got it as a gift and although we don't use it for a ton of stuff, we do really like it for making individual smoothies and its great for grating up a brick of fresh parmesan cheese. also, before we decided we just could not have oreos in the house, we used to make the BEST oreo blizzards in it... its great for that too! oh but just so you know, the infomercial exxagerates a ton and it takes way more than "1 - 2 - 3 Seconds!" haha
awwwwwwww that sounds like something that would happen to me!
I have a small scar in my right eyebrow too, but I have NO idea where it came from
I LOL'd at the Vanilla Ice wannabe comment! hehe
Oh my...you were in 4th grade in 1987?? I graduated from High School that year! LOL...I am glad the teacher was there...that must have been scary for you to see blood!
Ouch!!!
That is hilarious.
as a teacher? Totally wouldn't have laughed at you. ever. ever....hee heee
yeah, right, sara! ace, don't believe her for a MINUTE! not that i'd laugh at a student when they're in pain, but man, the replays in my head afterwards can be so entertaining. is that weird? i'm glad you can laugh at it now. yeah, i'm still laughing. :)
Okay, so when I pictured the scene, it did come across as funny! That had to hurt, though!!!
